Boudoirathon | A Richmond, VA Styled Shoot with Custom Lingerie

There’s something so incredibly beautiful when someone is willing to take a chance on you!  When they say, hey, show me what you can do, I KNOW it will be amazing!  That’s the moment where some of the deepest friendships are formed, and the sweetest memories are made.  I’m still stunned, and honored, when someone […]

There’s something so incredibly beautiful when someone is willing to take a chance on you!  When they say, hey, show me what you can do, I KNOW it will be amazing!  That’s the moment where some of the deepest friendships are formed, and the sweetest memories are made.  I’m still stunned, and honored, when someone reaches out to me and says that they would love for me to create their dress for them for their wedding day, or their lingerie for their honeymoon!!

I had one of the best “take a chance on you moments” ever a few months back when two girls who I had never met, got in touch with me asking me to design a few pieces for a styled shoot they were doing.  Kat, with Dear Sweetheart Events is a dear friend of mine, and she was styling the shoot for them, and when she heard it was lingerie, she suggested they reach out to me for a few custom pieces, instead of using something off the rack!  (I LOVE that girl!!) We started chatting, and turns out the shoot was so much more than just a styled boudoir shoot… These two girls, Annmarie and Jessica, were in the process of launching a new photography adventure, entitled “Boudoirathon”, a concept so fun I IMMEDIATELY fell in love!! In their own words, this is who they are:

Boudoirathon with Jessica and Annmarie is a boutique experience intended to empower women and instill confidence in them. By combining glamour, styling, and photography, Jessica and Annmarie highlight both the inner and outer beauty of their clients. Together, through a boudoir marathon, they provide women the experience of shedding vulnerability and expressing their most honest self.

I LOVE this!! These girls travel around, and host two day long “Boudoirathon’s” shooting the girls in gorgeous hotel rooms, mainly in Massachusetts but they have the dream to be doing this all around the country! The girls are encouraged, empowered, and made to feel extraordinarily beautiful in their own skin.

The styled shoot they were putting together with Kat was for their website launch (and you can find a couple of the images from the shoot scattered around their gorgeous site!! ) and what started with asking for 2-3 pieces turned into an 11 piece collection that we all fell in love with!!  I can’t wait to show you all the stunning images, but for now, here’s a little peek and there’s more scattered throughout my instagram!  The girls are waiting to hear back on a blog submission before we can show you the rest!! (Woohoo!!!)

Putting this collection together stretched me like nothing else has, I learned so many things, and honestly, gained so much more confidence in myself! (It was like they were photographing me or something!!  These girls just have that effect…)

I am SO grateful that they were willing to take that chance on me, and trust me to create their vision for them, and I’m so grateful for friends like Kat who believe in the work I do and are willing to help put my name out there!  I had the amazing opportunity to meet Annmarie last week at Creative at Heart in Virginia, and she is just as sweet in person as she looks!!  I hope you have the opportunity to meet her one day too!

The shoot was at the gorgeous Paisley & Jade studios in Richmond, Virginia.  Kat with Dear Sweetheart Events did all the styling, Calligraphy was provided by Taylor Sites, (who also modeled!), Hair by Brianna Adams, Makeup by Nikki Benedikt, and Bonnie of B is for Bonnie Design shared a gorgeous gold foil print for the styling!

Bohemian Romance, A Styled Shoot in Rome, Georgia

Earlier this Fall I had the pleasure of attending the annual Pursuit 31 conference down in Rome, Georgia.  It was full of photographers and really, all kinds of amazing artists, and while it was amazingly faith centered and a break away from the busyness and stress of work, they offered incredible breakout sessions that were professionally based, and centered on the various industry concentrations the attendees specialize in.  So, when I found out a few months prior to the conference that they were planning a styled shoot for photographer training, I got in touch with some of the ladies planning it and offered to design a dress for the shoot!  The theme was bohemian and romantic, and they were envisioning bright colors, a teepee, and a floral headband!  What could be more fun?!  So I sent off a few sketches, we decided on our favorite and the journey towards creating their dress began!!  We worked with a model that I didn’t actually meet until I handed her the dress the day of the shoot, (usually I have a couple fittings with my brides, this was the first time I delivered something with no fittings) and the dress fit PERFECTLY!!  It was so much fun working with the girls doing the shoots, and listening to Katelyn and Mary teach the attendees all their little secrets!  The model was gorgeous and it was incredibly beautiful watching the smile on her husband’s face every time he looked at her and seeing how much he loves her!

So here’s a few pictures from some of the amazing photographers involved in the shoot, I’m so excited about all the wonderful ladies I met and the incredible friendships that came out of this shoot, and from the whole conference.  There’s just something so sweet about the beautiful collaborations that happen with the wonderful people in this industry!  It was an amazing time away, I hope you enjoy the beautiful images and are inspired as much as I was!

xoxo

p.s. I’ll be selling the dress as a sample a little later on, let me know if you know anyone who’s interested!

2014-11-10_0052 I LOVE working with brides on custom gowns, and the process always starts with a sketch suite, so here’s a peek at some of the sketches I sent down to the ladies planning the shoot, as we worked towards finding the perfect gown for the shoot!

Lingerie: What to Wear Under Your Wedding Dress

October 15th, 2014

The day I went wedding dress shopping, I walked into the boutique, picked out the first dress I wanted to try on and the first thing they handed me was a slightly bulky, white stretchy bustier with very structured cups and about 10 rows of hooks and eyes on the back to choose which size fit you best.  What was supposed to be slimming, and help your dress fit over you like a glove, was uncomfortable, awkward, and not all that attractive.  Why?!  If you’re in the most beautiful dress you can imagine, for the day you’ve dreamed about forever, shouldn’t what you wear underneath make you feel just as gorgeous as the actual dress?

I spent the afternoon yesterday dreaming up a couple options that I would love to see worn under a wedding dress, instead of what they tried to hand me that day…  Why not a gorgeous little lace bustier that’s fit to you, or a vintage style high waisted panty and strapless bra set, or a shapewear slip with a beautiful ivory lace and silk panels?

There’s four different options here, to go under any style of dress, all designed to be slimming, and look and make you feel beautiful!

2014-10-14_0006 copy

(From left to right)

A bustier with a lace thong.  This bustier laces up in the back to pull you in tight, with a gorgeous lace panel and lines that make you look super slim!  Paired with a lace thong that won’t leave a mark on your hips and show through the dress, it’s perfect for underneath a dress where you need just that little extra bit of support!

Strapless bra with a vintage high waisted panty.  These are my favorite!  I adore high waisted panties! They’re slimming, they hide that awful panty line that shows up at your hips, and they make your dress flow right over.

Shapewear slip.  These are so much fun!  If it’s been fitted to you, it doesn’t have to have the 10 million rows of hook and eyes that the commercial versions have which tend to make the back very uncomfortable.  A good shaping slip will stretch in the right places, slim and tone where it’s needed, and your dress will sit right over top just beautifully!

Another strapless bra set.  This one is my personal favorite of the two!  Gold lace over blush silk?!  I would die to make this for one of my brides!

A silk short bustier paired with a tulle skirt.  Does your dress need a little volume underneath?  Wear a custom tulle skirt underneath instead of the normal crinolines, along with a bustier that’s fit to you and designed to match.  Wouldn’t that be fun?!

We’re bundled up in sweaters and thick tights up here in New York City, the cold has finally arrived and it’s lovely!  We spent the day apple picking upstate yesterday and the leaves were gorgeous!  The drive through the Hudson River Valley is one of my absolute favorites!  I tried to cozy up with some tea this morning, only to discover we were out of milk…  (I love black tea with milk, and honestly can’t drink it any other way!)

So, on this lovely fall morning, I thought I’d share a little bit of wedding inspiration that I just put together for a friend.  Think winter, white, tulle, fluffy flowers…  One of these dresses is for an upcoming styled shoot, but I can’t tell you which yet!

I hope you’re enjoying thick sweaters and hot mugs filled with your favorite fall drink as much as I am!

The moment I opened up the email and read the description of the styled shoot, I knew it was going to be perfect!  The theme, the details planned… I mean, I could sketch for hours on this one and still not run out of ideas!  A bohemian romance, outside, a teepee, a floral headband… Oh my goodness I’m already in love!! I can just see the bride’s long wavy hair and the dress floating wispily down to the ground.  I can literally SEE the dress already in my head, I LOVE it when everything just falls together like this! I can’t actually show you the dress just yet, but I’m bursting at the seams, so I promise it’s coming soon!  But I will share a few others from the suite of sketches I did for the project…
I’ve been working on some of these sketch suites for brides and styled shoots lately, and I have a new one I’m hoping to finish up and get shipped soon this week.  I thought I’d take a minute to share a little about the process, while my head is all wrapped up in it!  I have 3 questions I look for answers to as I start to get to know a new bride and work on sketches for her:

What are the top 3 words you would use to describe yourself.
What are the top 3 words you would use to describe your dream wedding.
And when you dream of your wedding day, when you imagine yourself walking down the aisle, how would you describe that       feeling that you anticipate?
From there, I take those words, and thoughts, and emotions and pick up my pencil and paint and start sketching until I feel they have become visual representations on my paper.  Until I feel like those emotions are a tangible object waiting to come to life and float off the page.  Then and only then do I stop, but that’s truly only the beginning.
Each bride receives her package with 5-10 sketches in it, along with a little gift to sit down with and make the selection process something to truly savor and remember. It’s one of the most magical feelings ever to see your wedding dress for the first time, and wait in anticipation for when you get to step into it and it’s finally yours.  For all you married ladies out there, remember?!  And brides, and beautiful girls dreaming of your day one day to come, you have so much to look forward to!!
For now, I’m off to chase two adorable kiddos around the house, and take them to the beach for the day!  Aunt Courtney (my awesome sister!) is in town for a few days, so we’re showing her some of our favorite spots!  Last night was ice cream down on the boardwalk with the most incredible view of NYC you can find (New Jersey has it’s benefits!) and today is Fire Island, one of Guillaume and my sweetest memories, and where we snapped our save the date pic FIVE years ago! Holy moly time flies!!  I have a lighthouse obsession, and the black and white one on the island never gets old!
If you’re interested in a dress consultation, or having a Sketch Suite done for you as you start to plan your beautiful wedding day, I’d love to chat!
Last week’s giveaway winners will be announced tomorrow morning, I promised Piper she gets to do the “drawing”, and we haven’t had a minute to yet :)
Have a lovely day, off to find the sun and sand and climb a lighthouse!

Good afternoon!  It’s a bright and beautiful Wednesday here, I hope your weather is as good as mine!  We spent all weekend with a sick baby (poor Piper had roseola) and sleepless nights, and it’s taking a little bit longer than I expected to get back into our routine.  She’s finally down for a nap, and after some self-debate about whether I should be asleep too, I decided to compromise- the post is going to be put up, but I’m sitting on my bed to write it just in case I can’t keep my eyes open…

Finally, there’s a little bit of lingerie going up!  Yes, this is a wedding blog, but I’m a lingerie designer as well, and for me wedding gowns and lingerie go hand in hand, right?  So here is the most recent collection I’ve been working on; sleepwear!  It fits into a 4 part collection all inspired by the Ballet Russes (a Russian Ballet company) of the early 1900’s.  (For those of you that watch Downton Abbey, Ballet Russes isn’t mentioned, but it played a huge part in the development of fashion during that time period!)  Looking through old Ballet Russes images, the thing that always strikes me is the style of artwork used to portray the costumes.  They’re gorgeous sketches and paintings that not only show the costume, but they show its style as well, and its emotion.  The costumes are beautiful, but my inspiration comes from the original sketches themselves.

This collection actually came from looking at an old poster advertising the ballet company, portraying two dancers leaping together in flowing bright silky clothes.  And what screams lingerie more than two people holding on to each other as they dance?!

This six piece collection is made from silk, lace, and a little bit of mesh, in black, white and red, and most of the pieces are available to be custom made and sold!  Get in touch with me if you’re interested, I’d love to chat!  (Pieces are made to fit, and colors are available to be changed)

Soon, I’m hoping to have an etsy shop up with some ready-to-wear pieces available for immediate order!  But for now, please send me an email with anything you’re interested in!  My next few projects include finishing up a wedding dress, a rehearsal and bridal shower dress for my best friend from kindergarten who’s getting married this summer! Congratulations Katherine! and some cloth diapers for Piper (I just ordered the cutest cupcake fabric for covers!)

xoxo

p.s. This is sleepwear, coming soon is shapewear, loungewear, and honeymoon!
